Sir Thomas More has generally talked about a structure of countering the issue of burglary in his book Utopia where a perfect of a socio-politically adjusted society has been anticipated. This paper delineates contemporary social issue of burglary from a paper article alongside a system to counter it as proposed by Sir Thomas More. The writer of the a rticle Jennifer Saranow claims that wholesale fraud is a regularly expanding social issue. In the progressed innovative time, it has expanded its proportion of pervasiveness. The creator has detailed a lot of measurements to introduce a careful situation of the circumstance. Evaluated figures that have been refered to from the 2011 personality extortion overview reports are guaranteeing that around 8.1 million record holders have experienced data fraud (Saranow). A yearly report of the overview has consolidated improvement of social issue. The creator asserts that data fraud is being attempted in pretty much all aspects of the world with little endeavors put by criminals to take up monetary subtleties. Concerning the article, wholesale fraud has been characterized as a demonstration which is embraced to take monetary benefits from the recorded data (Saranow). On the off chance that an exhaustive research is led, at that point it becomes noticeable that consistently expanding insight s of data fraud have contributed in an increasingly interrelated issue in a general public. With the use of strategy for Thomas More that weights on rebuffing burglary regarding their transgressions, one might say that a lot of social issues could be countered. If there should be an occurrence of fraud by taking data from cutting edge registering frameworks, cheats must be found with precise following virtual products. The exchanges of monetary subtleties are recorded by practically all budgetary organizations. In a specific way, budgetary organiza tions can be considered as liable for such burglaries since they need security checks. As Sir Thomas More asserted that those disciplines ought to be sentences that don't complete the insidious psyche of offender immediately. Hoodlums must be kept in jail for a timespan that would be sufficient to change his character. Besides, the idea of socio-politically stable society expresses that everything that is plundered must return as a cost paid by the guilty party (More, Robinson and Sacks). The disturbing factual data gave in the article by Jennifer alludes to a framework that has become unpredictably in-combatable. The oppression of guilty parties in the advanced world can't be drilled for a more drawn out period as the techniques for Thomas More can give battling measures. As Thomas More has insisted in his book that cash should remain steadily in each class with the goal that the interest doesn't rise childishly. Monetary organizations need to ensure that they have plans to enable the individuals who to need cash and force. On the off chance that discipline is considered as an exit plan to battle, at that point it will likewise be noticed that establishments of security worries in the propelled world are additionally required (Lupton). Through the above conversation, it goes to our understanding that wholesale fraud is expanding with higher rate each year. It is a direct result of the expansion in the wholesale fraud that individuals experience began to confront difficulties in their money related exercises. The conversation likewise guarantees that energetic reaction to robberies must be attempted as it alludes to a socio-politically solid society. Linguality’s French Book Club appeared in 2007 and immediately earned awards from perusers and language specialists the same. Six times each year, contemporary French books are republished with an English presentation, broad English glossaries, and writer meets in French on sound CD. Given the accomplishment of that adventure, the organization chose to fan out, and propelled an Italian Book Club. Truth be told, the glossary passages act increasingly like turbocharged captions, boosting perusers appreciation and jargon. Commonly there are more than 2,000 sections for every book characterizing each troublesome word and articulation, wiping out the requirement for a word reference. As Lingualitys distributer, Wes Green, says: ...a non-familiar speaker doesnt need a total translation...or a word reference. The individual just opens the book and starts perusing in the unknown dialect. Italian Book Club Membership Has PrivilegesAnother bit of leeway of the Linguality Italian Book Club is that all books are finished, unedited writings the first form that local Italians read as well. Supporters additionally get a sound CD with a 30-to 45-minute discussion in Italian with the writer, incorporating a transcript with glossary of the discourse as an index in the book. The distributer suggests that perusers have finished what could be compared to two years of school Italian. Younger children and teens tend to abuse inhalants in part because they are readily available and inexpensive. Although unintentional inhalation of household products can occur, inhalant abuse, or huffing, is an intentional act. Street Names Each classification of inhalant has its own slang or street names according to the NIDA, including laughing gas (nitrous oxide), snappers (amyl nitrite), poppers (amyl nitrite and butyl nitrite), whippets (nitrous oxide, found in whipped cream dispensers), bold (nitrites), and rush (nitrites). What Are Inhalants? Inhalants are breathable chemical vapors often found in common household products that contain volatile solvents or aerosols. Inhalants fall into four major categories: Volatile Solvents: Volatile solvents are industrial, household, art or office supply solvents or solvent-containing products. They include paint thinners or removers, degreasers, dry-cleaning fluids, gasoline, correction fluids, felt-tip marker fluid, and electronic contact cleaners.Aerosols: Aerosols are household aerosol propellants and associated solvents in items such as spray paints, hair or deodorant sprays, fabric protector sprays, aerosol computer cleaning products, and vegetable oil sprays.Gases: These are gases used in household or commercial products, including butane lighters and propane tanks, whipping cream aerosols or dispensers (whippets), and refrigerant gases, medical anesthetic gases, such as ether, chloroform, halothane, and nitrous oxide (laughing gas).Nitrites: Organic nitrites are volatiles that includes cyclohexyl, butyl, and amyl nitrites, commonly known as poppers. Amyl nitrite is still used in some medical procedures. Volatile nitrites are often sold in sma ll brown bottles labeled as video head cleaner, room odorizer, leather cleaner or liquid aroma. How Are Inhalants Used? Inhalants are sniffed directly from the container, huffed from a cloth saturated with the substance and held close to the face, bagged which is sniffing from a bag with the saturated cloth inside it or put on hands, fingernails or clothing enabling the user to inhale the fumes in public without being detected. Who Uses Inhalants? Young people may use inhalants as a substitute for alcohol. Because of its addictive nature, many go on to use it as they grow older. The first substance that many children experiment with are inhalants because they are cheap and available â€" usually found around the house in the kitchen, laundry room or garage. With most drugs, the rate of use goes up in higher age groups. Inhalants are the only substances that are used more by younger adolescents than older teens. Older adults who use inhalants are generally chronic abusers. Research suggests that chronic or long-term inhalant abusers are among the most difficult drug abuse patients to treat. What Are the Effects of Inhalants? Most inhalants produce a rapid high that resembles alcohol intoxication. If sufficient amounts are inhaled, nearly all solvents and gases produce anesthesia, a loss of sensation, and even unconsciousness. Short-Term Hazards IntoxicationLoss of consciousnessHeart failureSuffocationInjury to the mouth, throat, and lungsHigh-risk of death Long-Term Hazards Damage to the brain, liver, and kidneysHearing lossDamage to central nervous systemVision damageLimb spasmsBlackoutsCognitive impairmentBone marrow damageImmune system damageHigh-risk of death There are also other dangerous effects. Sudden Sniffing Death Sudden Sniffing Death can result from a single session of inhalant, even in healthy individuals. This is often associated with the abuse of butane, propane, and chemicals in aerosols. Inhalants and Suffocation High concentrations of inhalants also can cause death from suffocation by displacing oxygen in the lungs and then in the central nervous system so that breathing ceases. Deliberately inhaling from a paper or plastic bag or in a closed area greatly increases the chances of suffocation. Are Inhalants Addictive? Yes. Heavy users can become addicted to inhalants may suffer cognitive impairment or other neurological dysfunctions which make quitting difficult. Users develop a tolerance for inhalants over time which means it takes more to experience the high that they used to get from smaller amounts. Cautions Casual users face the same dangers from using inhalants as heavy users. A British study of 1,000 deaths from inhalant use found that 200 of the deaths were to first-time users.

The film Henry V - Free Essay Example

The Adaptation of the Playscript: Does the film stay true to the original, or has the director/screenwriter made changes that affect the storyline or character interpretation. Point to cuts of scenes, lines, or characters and to added scenes. Discuss why you think these changes were made and how they affect interpretation of particular scenes or of individual characters. The film Henry V, stays true to the original playwright for most of the film, while also incorporating new ideas. The element of the film still stays true to the Shakespearean play which is based on hard consequences of war. Drawing together history, philosophy, emotions, challenges and consequences to bring the hundred years war to life and King Henry V. On St. Crispins Day Henrys strong speech to his soldiers is loudly proclaimed from young Kenneth Branagh with firm strong emphasis and great use of the language. As in the play, Branagh, brings together Henrys real goal for the soldiers fighting beside him. Which is to conquer France not just for himself but for all of England. The memorable call to arms speech, We few, we happy few, we band of brother ( IV, iii, 18-67), is also included. The Director/screenwriter, Branagh, edited the original play to incorporate scenes that help the viewer understand the story without reading the original Shakespeare play, Henry V. placed as serie s of flashbacks with Henry V and the character Falstaff before he was king. With joy, laughter, games, drinking, they are hanging out as rascals and friends. These scenes include a brief summary of denouncement of his friend Falstaff and the final repudiation to recall Henrys former loyalties and alliances. Casting and Acting: Is the casting appropriate? Discuss at least two leading actors in terms of appearance, voice quality, movement, stage business, quality of acting, and interpretation of the characters they play. Point to at least one scene for each actor to support what you say. The casting and their acting finishes this production up strong, reading in the period aspect of the film. Kenneth Branagh, the director, uses his own company ,a Democratic community of actors, Renaissance Films, to pull off this production, The clothing is historically accurate contemporary of the period in which Henry V was in, reflecting the original characters. The colors of costumes range from dark to light, muddy to clean, and alternating moods. The chorus in this film instead of being a small group of actors, is one single actor dressed in modern 20th century clothing addressing the camera and narrating the film. Extras are wearing dirt robes, King Henry is played by Kenneth Branagh, taking on the approach of being a complex king. Not simply idealizing peace, not glamorizing war, but trying to do whats best for himself and all of England in a just war. With a conflicted personality, Henry, is having to fulfill kings duties making moves on his inner pursuits in good heart. His voice is strung and delivery is excellent. The costumes that are worn have definite Elizabethan flavor, medieval broadsword included! One scene in particular he is wearing a black and brown long hooded cloak. His tunic in the battle is blue and bright red checked, with steel underneath. Elegant for a king and perfect apparel for what was worn during his time in a battle. The purpose of the Chorus in King Henry V was to summarize the plot of each act to the audience before the next one, a tool for the audience to not get confused. Derek Jacobi plays the chorus as a one man show. He is dressed in a 20th century long black cloak and has a cleaned up beard. When Derek delivers the plot to the audience, he is most of the time walking, correlating the movement in the story because his purpose is the narrator. He reappears several times during the film, helping explain the progress in a strong clear voice. Practical: Discuss Mounting in terms of time period, set(s) (sound stage or on location?), costumes, colors, props. Point to specific examples. The time period was set in the era of King Henry V, nothing fancy, real and to the point. The sets are not out of place and distracting, they are real, simple, and follow the period. The sound stage, and location is realistic and simply elegant. An example of realism in filming can be seen in the Battle of Agincourt. Which takes place in rain and mud, turning it into a muddy, bloody, mess. Filmed in a succession of close-up shots and slow motion montages. Highlighting the dramatics of the scene and showing the results of war and hand to hand combat. Colors that are real in nature are not tampered, and the accent colors on props and clothing are of the period of time. Red for a king, and that can be seen on King Henry a few times throughout the film. The use of props is not excess only when needed like in the battle the swords, the bows, saddles, and such. All staying true to the way Shakespeare plays are performed with little to no props. Technical: Discuss Mounting in terms of Lighting, Sound, and Camera Work: Is the lighting appropriate to the mood of certain scenes (be specific)? Is the musical score appropriate to the mood of certain scenes? Where does sound/music add to or detract from the quality of specific moments? Camera Work: point to at least one shot or a series of shots that add(s) to or detract(s) from the quality of a specific scene. The mounting in terms of, lighting, sound, and camera work are all reinforcing the idea of realistic filming. The lighting inside is set to the period, with dim and dark lighting only lit by what seems is candlelight. In the outside scenes the skies make it seem like late fall, with gray sky and windy atmosphere. I can remember one scene in particular with dark lighting, night time, in the forest, the only light being the campfire. Which is radiating off of King Henry Vs face, this shot is beautifully composed and lighted. The musical score is appropriate for the dramatics and realistic feel that is set throughout the film. During the battle of Agincourt there is no music during the beginning of the battle. The SFXs came into play with the clanking of swords and horses making unsettling noises. The camera work is consisting of highly dramatic shots. Big bold red title starts then rolls into credits with the dramatic music. With a match lit in a shoulder up close up the chorus is the first character we see. Then it goes into a tracking shot of him walking through what looks like the backstage of a theatre set. The first entrance of King Henry is darkly lit and goes from long shot to a tighter shot as hes walking to the camera all strong. Most of the focus is on short shots bringing you into the actors domain. Most of the film is photographed in medium shots and close ups. The medium shots are capturing those strong facial expressions of King Henry, holding his strong body language within the frame without losing sight of what is around in the scene. The close-ups are to capture the smallest facial expressions, like Henrys confusion when figuring out wether to wage a war with France. After the battle theres a long tracking shot of King Henry V carrying the body of young Christian Bail that was killed by the French in battle. How does this production compare to other Shakespoearean films that you have seen in terms of mounting, directing, acting, and interpretation? Does the director borrow from other films or pay homage to other directors? The differences between Oliviers and Baranaghs films are staggering. Oliviers is more comedic, and Baranaghs is a more realistic approach on King Henry. Borrowing some ideas from Oliviers film such as including the battle of Agincourt, and staying true to the text. Both films didnt include the murder of the French prisoners. Branagh focused more on Henrys inner turmoil, Oliviers Henry seemed more sure of himself and his decisions. Oliviers was made during WWII and was more of a call to arms, Branagh was a more realistic combat period movie.

In the tragic play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, Romeo met Juliet from an enemy family in a party that he was not supposed to attend, and they quickly fell in love. Of course, this forbidden love brought unfortunate luck, and both Romeo and Juliet died at the end of the play. Who shall be held responsible for the death of Romeo and Juliet? This question has been bothering people, and yet to be answered. There are indeed many variables that have affected this, but I think Romeo himself is responsible for his own death and the one of his wife Juliet. Since the beginning of the play, Romeo has been acting foolishly, and he could not behave and calm himself down. If he had behaved well and thought before doing whatever he was going to do, everything could’ve been better. Romeo first made his big mistake by going to the party hosting by the Capulets. Everything started with this party hosted by the Capulets. The purpose for it was to help Juliet meet County Paris, unfortunately, the plan did not go well. When Romeo first heard about the party from the Clown, he did not think about the outcome, and he decided to go. In act one, scene two, Romeo says, â€Å"I’ll go along, no such sight to be shown, but to rejoice in splendour of mine own.† (I, ii, 102-103) As he has said, he wanted to go to â€Å"rejoice in splendour of mine own†, to reveal the pleasure of his own, it’s quite a poor reason for him to go. The most important and most influential of these is the rise of two super powers in the world: the United States of America and the USSR. The emergence of these two states has brought so many political and economic changes that became influential from the past decades until the present. We will write a custom essay sample on The Past America and Beyond or any similar topic only for you Order Now The rise of the US government into power has become massive and became the indicative factor in settling international relations. The events that took place after the Second World War created massive impact on policy formations in the international arena. The Cold War for example, has been the biggest offspring of the war. Consequently, from the Cold War emerged different political and economic changes that from the past decades until now have still served their purpose, and until this era have played as decisive factors in creating foreign and domestic policies.   For the purpose of this paper, we shall be studying events that happened in the following decades: 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, 1980s and 1990s. The events that will be tackled are those events that tool place that have had great and influential changed in American policy, and those that are until now still prevalent in international relations. 1950: The Rise of the American Dream The years from the 1950s have highlighted the growth of the American community. Central to this interval is the modernization of the American life, the development of more modernized society, and the peak of what they called the â€Å"American dream†. During these years were the improvement in technology, infrastructures, and the rise of mass cultures. The emergence of this abrupt modernization in American society was a response to the slump that was caused by the war. This response created a boom in American economy. High consumer spending became the coping mechanism of the civilians to recover from the war, which in turn also brought in higher government spending, a booming military industrial sector, which became the offset for a prosperous economy (Leffler, 1994). The rise of this modern industry for the American society was a fulfillment for their American dream. Every society and every individual were accountable for their own changes and emancipation. Their goal was to create a society that was free, modernized, superior and on top of every nation. Moreover, this economic boom and high consumer spending brought in the development of new innovations and quality inventions that enhanced not only the purpose that it must serve, but also took note of its aesthetic factors. The rise of the automobile industry for instance is a good example of the general idea that this occurrence has made a strong impact on. The emergence of their automobile industry is a starting point and an important facet in the current economic trend that the US has subliminally inculcated towards the people around the globe. (McKinlay, 1993) This emergence has brought in the culture of planned obsolescence, which is now an important factor in the success of globalization and modernization, not only of the American society, but as well as to their allies that follow their trails. 1960: The Era for Civil Emancipation Following the modernization of the American society, was the rise of the various legal fights against racial discrimination. The postwar era created an avenue for greater equality for the black Americans. This era highlighted the establishment of various associations that fought for civil rights and equality. Further, aside from the African American rights, the Latin civil society also gained consciousness towards their own civil rights. Aside from the civil anti-segregation fight of the blacks and the latinos, their political and economic power were also empowered in the new era of southern racial relations. The rise of several personalities highlighted this fight during the era. Martin Luther King Jr., served as an influential icon in the fight for justice and equality among the blacks and the whites. And consequently, his influence became rampant that further rallies turned into crusades of trying to overpower the black discrimination. (Badger and Ward, 1996) Following the strong movements for civil rights, John Kennedy upon the start of his term as president legalized a civil rights act. The Civil Act Right of 1964 embodied provisions that prohibited any display of discrimination by race, color, religion, sex and nationality. In addition, the Voting Acts Right of 1965, which increased black voting by a large percentage. (Branch, 1988). This challenge of fighting racial discrimination during this era encouraged a lot of changes in the society, politics and economics. This era exemplified strong resistance of the blacks from further discrimination. However, even though the efforts were strong, nonetheless, the black community has never achieved full redemption against discrimination. Although in this contemporary era where there are black personalities that emerged triumphant and successful within the fields that they chose, today, discrimination against blacks is rampant and their economic conditions are never emancipated as most of the black population still lives in poverty. 1970: The Economic Turmoil and Political Deterioration The 1970’s was an advent of return to conservatism. During the administration of Richard Nixon, he administered policies that were geared towards the establishment of countering running liberal programs. In contrast to liberalist programs, he favored â€Å"income strategy† which initially encouraged individual initiative, personal freedom and lessened government bureaucracy. However, Nixon’s attempt in reversing liberal ideas became detrimental to the economy. The stagflation in the economy forced Nixon to adopt liberal remedies. This economic recession in US caused a decrease in the demand for goods, workers were laid off resulting to an increase in the unemployment rate, and manufacturers were forced to cut prices in their products and reduce wages for their workers in order to preserve profit margin.   During his first term was mostly concerned with finding solutions on how to end the Vietnam War. As a whole, his first term was satisfactorily carried out. You read "The Past America and Beyond" in category "Essay examples" And despite the economic stagflations that US experienced during his term, the American community was nonetheless contented with his regime. Despite the moral controversies and the economic downfall that US experienced during Nixon’s administration, nonetheless he still won the presidency during the next held elections. However, this triumph has caused Nixon to become complacent in running his government, and abuse of power rendered him detrimental setbacks in his governance. His second term however was battled with controversies including the Watergate scandal. He used his powers to eliminate radical counterculture – from media practitioners who criticized them to anti war activists. (Nixon Presidency). These occurrences during the era marked certain importance in the US history. The lesson of how they dealt with the Vietnam aggression is an important benchmark in their history. It has proven significant policy changes that are currently affecting how US has played with regards to foreign aggressions. 1980: New American Influx The 1980s was highlighted by international migration. At the peak of this era, America was occupied by â€Å"Americans† of international decent. A large percentage of America was occupied by Asian Americans, as well as Latinos which enlarged the foreign immigration. This influx in fact prompted the government to legislate acts that shall restrain illegal migration to control the influx of foreign nationals inside the borders of the US. The Immigration and Control Act of 1986 limited and tightened border security. However, the law also provided amnesty for immigrants who arrived earlier than 1986 and allowed them to become legal residents. (Immigration and Control Act of 1986) This event lead to the internationalization of the American community. This further opened links towards global relations, it shaped American society in such a way that they can directly create relationships amongst neighboring countries. This paved the way for an easier connection in the global world which made it easier for them to penetrate and dominate international relations. In addition, the end of the cold war became beneficial to the American community as it increased global responses in the Americanization of the world. And thus, the fall of the Soviet Union nonetheless provided a larger array of development and opportunities for political and economic domination around the globe. 1990: The New Globe 1990s was started at the height of Bill Clinton’s leadership. During his administration he focused more on domestic issues rather than following the usual internationalist trend. And during this era, America has experienced a rather powerful economic expansion, with little economic inflation. This economic rise in the country allowed them to decrease public debts and budget deficits. Clinton pushed his leadership towards the independent states of American communities. During his leadership, he passed the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). The organization of NAFTA linked US closer to Canada and Mexico which provided larger trade opportunities and generated greater jobs (Remarks from President Clinton†¦) These occurrences eventually lead to the strengthening of US economic and political relationship with other allies. This created a world order that is closely linked towards one another. The improved ties between countries made specific changes and opened up better opportunities for their market. The turnouts during this era were important and delicate part of the developments that the US has gone through in the following years. The end of 1990s marked the start of the Bush era which turned out to be an offset for the start of the 19th century. The series of events that took place in the 1990s are still prevalent in the contemporary times, wherein the global community that were started in this decade eventually elevated to form a stronger link in global relations. Hence, the 1990s was a starting point for the current trend of globalization. 2000 and Beyond The events that took place from the 1950s towards the 1990s proved to be benchmarks for the current international trend. The modernization in 1950s, the emancipation of civil rights in 1960s, the economic downfall of 1970s, the influx of international immigrants in the US during the 1980s, and the establishment of the new world order in the 1990s became integral to the emergence of US as they developed to become the international leader and authority based on economic, political and military supremacy. These occurrences are pillars of the economic and political activities of the current US society. The continuing influence of the US over other countries shall prove their supremacy and moral ascendancy in the international relations. The 1990s most importantly had a very distinct impact on the US development and how they were able to gain world power. Globalization as an offspring of the establishment of new world order is the most significant factor in the world domination. The US’ continuing influence in the globalized community shall always prove to be beneficial to their existence. The US policies and impositions towards their allies are so integral that these policies are geared towards further empowerment of their society.   In the future, America is still seen to post political, economic and military supremacy over other countries. Although there are current aggressions against several nations posting ideologies different from that of the Americans, still, the American prevalence is still evident and their allies have been expanding and further growing in strength in the absence of a strong contender that shall challenge their world leadership. CSR refers to the movement aims to encourage business organizations to be more aware about the impact of their business on the environment, society and their stakeholders (Tai and Chuang 2014). Thus, it can be said that CSR is a particular business approach contributing towards sustainable development by delivering environmental, social and economic benefits to all the stakeholders. The main aim of this report is to analyze various aspects of CSR is respect to a major Australian food and hardware retain company, Woolworths Limited (WOW). Different kinds of theories can be seen for representing the CSR activities of the business organizations. One of such theories is Legitimacy Theory. It needs to be mentioned that Legitimacy Theory is based on the notion that there is a social contract between a business organizations and the society in which the company is operating (Lanis and Richardson 2012). For this reason, business organizations try to legitimize their corporate activities by engaging in CSR reporting in order to get approval from the society. This particular theory puts emphasis on the aspect that the interrelation between the business organizations and the society can be considered as a reality of the social life. Moreover, this theory also states that the existence of the business organizations largely depends on both the market strengths and social expectations (Fernando and Lawrence 2014). For this reason, the fulfillment of the community and environmental expectations is a major perquisite for the surviva l of the organizations. Hence, it is the social responsibility of the business organizations to keep their social position by responding towards the requirements of the societies. It needs to be mentioned that there is a relations between the legitimacy theory and the voluntary disclosure about social and environmental performance of the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX) listed companies. In the year 2014, ASX updated their requirements related to non-financial disclosure (theconversation.com 2018). As per the update, the ASX listed companies are required to disclose their sustainability and environmental performance in case their business activities have material effects on the environment and community. More specifically, the ASX listed companies now requires to disclose their economic, social and environmental performance at the same time. As a result of this new standard, the majority portion of the ASX listed companies are publishing their sustainability performance in the annual reports (theconversation.com 2018). It is the voluntary requirement for the business organizations under ASX to comply with this principle and must provide the details about their non-financial performance. Companies failing to do so will be delisted from ASX. In Australia, Woolworths Limited is considered as a well-known retail company due to their publication of non-financial performance or CSR activities. From the analysis of the annual report of Woolworths from the period from 2015 to 2017, it can be observed that the company has mentioned some of their CSR activates in their annual report (woolworthsgroup.com.au 2018). However, the analysis indicates towards one fact that Woolworths have disclosed very less issues of CSR in their annual report from 2015 to 2017. The company has not mentioned anything about their CSR issues in the contents of the report (woolworthsgroup.com.au 2018). Apart from this, the company has not followed any particular theme for the reporting of CSR issues in the annual report from 2015 to 2017. Some similarities can be spotted in these annual reports from 2015 to 2017. In every year, the company has published about their environmental regulations. It states that the company has complied with the law of Commonw ealth of Australia. In all the three years, Woolworths have mentioned about some CSR issues like generation of sustainable performance in food, the evaluation of drink business, the empowerment of portfolio business and others (woolworthsgroup.com.au 2018). Thus, based on the above discussion, it can be seen that Woolworths has not put any major emphasis on social and environmental performance. It can be observed that is significant difference in Woolworths CSR reporting in the annual report of 2017 and in their official website. In case of the website, Woolworths has followed a particular content and theme while all these aspects are missing in the annual report of 2017. In the website, all the performance related details of Woolworths can be found under the head of CORPORATE RESPONSIBILITY (woolworthsgroup.com.au 2018). After that, it can be noticed that the content of CSR activities includes six aspects; they are People, Planet, Customer and Community, Partners, Reports and Latest News related to CSR activities. In case of the annual report of 2017, Woolworths has not provided any components of CSR issues. Apart from content, Woolworths has presented all of their key CSR activities under a specific theme. Under each content of CSR activities, there are several sub-contents (woolworthsgroup.com.au 2018). For example, under the content of people, one can find the entire sp ecific activates of Woolworths that the company has undertaken In case of people, they are implementation of safe place for work and shop; introduction of inclusive place for work; the promotion of gender equality and others. Under the content planet, some of the major activities of Woolworths are animal welfare, sustainable fish and seafood, genitivally modified foods, the initiatives of the company towards climate change issue, introduction of sustainable forestry products and others (woolworthsgroup.com.au 2018). Thus, from the above discussion, it can be seen that the CSR reporting of Woolworths in their website is more effective as compared to the reporting in annual report of 2017. Conclusion According to the above discussion, legitimacy theory indicates towards the responsibility of the companies to fulfill the social and environmental expectations for their long-term survival. The new standard in 2017 state that all the ASX listed companies have the voluntary obligation of disclosing their CSR performance. In case of Woolworths, it can be observed that the company has published little information about their different CSR activities. However, the official website of Woolworths contains all the required information about their various CSR activities. References Fernando, S. and Lawrence, S., 2014. The mission statement of the company is to serve value and quality to each territory and state of the country (Woolworths, 2017). The products which are offered by the company are much diversified as they are into food, clothing, financial services and home ware also they maintain their own supply chain network (Woolworths, 2016). The objectives and strategy of the company is shown in the picture given below The 5Cs of Organisation Company- This aspect discusses the strengths and weaknesses and the opportunities and threats of the company. The strengths are the variety of the businesses which the company deals in which diversifies the risks of the company and draws out good return for the company. One of the major strength of the company is the corporate social responsibilities in which they are concern for the environment, employees, customers and all those who play a part in the company. They possess a strong brand name as they are focusing on reducing the carbon emissions year after year and promoting the idea of zero food waste (Woolworths, 2016). The weakness of the company is that they are not so popular in comparison to its competitors like Aldi and Walmart. The reduction in the profits in the petrol business and increase in their operation costs because of large businesses (Woolworths, 2016). The opportunities for the company are the vast customer database which can be used for offering customised offer s and facilities. The threats to the company are the intense competition with other players in the same industry. The recession trends in the economy and also the government intervention with respect to the health diseases that occur because of the liquor business. Customers- The market segment of the company are the masses as they offer products and services which can be consumed by everyone and anyone. In addition, the company is constantly making efforts in order to bring in customisation for its customers. The typical behaviour of the customers and the company is same as they want to purchase value for cheap rates and the same is from the companys end as they want to offer quality goods which are budget friendly. Collaborators- Company has its own supply chain network which manages all the distribution and transportation activities of the company. Their very own distribution centres are responsible for supplying the goods to their stores. The reason behind their own supply chain management system is that it reduces costs and ensures the proper management of all the activities giving the best of quality. Competitors- The competitor within Australia is Coles which is owned by Wesfarmers. Another major player who is on its toes to eat up the market share of all the other players is Aldi which is a German discount retail chain who is acquiring market share and attracting customers globally. It has also launched its store in Melbourne, Australia. Lidl is another German based supermarket retail chain. Tesco based in UK can be another emerging player. Context- This part will explain the PESTEL of the company. The political aspect is that the Australian government is introducing policies to eliminate competition between the two major players of the market that are Woolworths and Coles. Basically, this step is taken up with the idea of encouraging new entrants in the industry. The economic aspect deals with the change in the Australian dollar taking place over the period of time which can affect a companys economic growth. The social aspect deals with the concern of the company for its employees, suppliers and customers. It depicts the change in the customers needs and preferences in relation to the consumption of the food products. The technological aspect will deal with the advancement of technology in relation to that of its competitors. The company will search for organic technology to maintain the environmental sustainability and also it will store the perishable goods for a longer period of time. The environmental aspect direc tly hits the liquor business of the company which leads to various health diseases. The legal aspect talks about the regulations that are set by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission violation of which can result in the costs and liabilities (Woolworths, 2016). Market Research The company collects information from the huge database of their customers. They do customisation for their customers from the data they have of the previous purchase history of the customers. Customers wants are very basic as they want value for their money. They want products which are affordable and of good quality. The major competitor to Woolworths is Aldi, Germany which is emerging as a strong player of the industry. Aldi is focused on to have a global presence. One of the competitors in Australia itself is Coles who is a threat to the company. The context of the company was purely the retail store but now the company is much into other businesses like fuel, logistics, financial services, hospitality, liquor etc. Therefore; so much diversification is also hindering the central aspect of the company i.e. the supermarket. In addition to this the companys fuel business is running into losses therefore; the companys profits of different sector are also getting influenced by the fue l business which is into losses. The company has collaborated with number of people in order to promote the sustainable living. This is done by joining hands with people who are world renowned so that customers also get influenced and therefore; it is beneficial for them and the society as well. The company shook hands with the famous songwriter Pharrell Williams who is a Grammy award winner and at the same time a philanthropist (Mail Guardian, 2015). South-African division of woollies is found to be one of the profitable entities. The company has chosen the best person to take the ideas of the sustainable projects of the company forward to people for their support. Another important collaboration of the company is said to be with its suppliers as they are the ones who improve the functioning of the company. The company especially being into the food business the role of the suppliers is significant because perishable goods are required to be delivered to the stores at the right ti me in order to reach out to the end users. In addition, the company promises quality to its customers therefore; the supply chain network has to be on its toes all the time. Collaboration with suppliers is important in order to achieve the sustainable goals of the company. Marketing Strategy The choice of the company for its target market is that they are shifting their business to consumer idea towards business to business (Williams, 2016). The reason behind the same is that they want to satisfy the needs of the businesses to buy foodstuffs. Grocery market in Australia is emerging at a rapid pace and the same the company wants to target by going for online expansion. Apart from this the company wants to change the perception of the brand from B2C. The company came up with idea as they found the need of their products and services at the business level. Businesses track different people for their needs of stationery, fruit and meat. Therefore; Woollies hit on the same need of the businesses so that they can get their fulfilments satisfied below one roof. Moreover, they are becoming more digital friendly so that businesses can save their time and money by just placing an order. The major advantage will be that they will become more renowned among the businesses as well. Value proposition refers to all the new, creative and innovative steps which are taken by the company to attract its customers (Osterwalder, et.al, 2014). The value proposition of the company was its various campaigns. The companys advertising partner Leo Burnett created and ad campaign for their client which featured birds with a jingle of the Cheap Cheap campaign in which they cut down the prices of many necessities like bread which was brought to 85cents from $1 (Caroll, 2015). Another was Woolworths reward programs which convert their current customers into loyal customers. The motive behind the loyalty program is to collect more and more information by inducing customers through discounts and gifts in return. Apart from this the company is even more near to its customers as never before. The reward loyalty program has involved around 6.5 million loyal customers (Robin, 2013). One of the most innovative steps of the company is their African unit of their company it is all the mor e appreciated when they joined hands with the American philanthropist Pharrell Williams to spread issues like environment awareness. Also the company acquired David Jones which proved to be another milestone in companys financial success. As a result of this acquisition the share prices of Woollies increased by 25 per cent in the capital market (Chibelushi, 2016). Positioning refers to how the product is being perceived in the minds of the consumers. The statement is analysis of the target market, the value proposition and their benefits (Gospe, 2011). The companys positioning statement is to become the brand which is devoted to its customers wholly and solely. The company also strives to make strong relations with its customers. They also want to provide value against the money and time spent by their customers (WHL, 2011). Marketing Tactics Marketing Mix is the central role to be performed by the marketing professionals of the company. It includes the 4Ps of marketing which is extending according to the needs of the any organisation. The best suited combination which of the Ps can be studied or analysed by the company (Felicia, 2014). The marketing mix consists of product, price, place, promotion, people, processes and physical evidence. The product mix deals with the satisfaction of the customer needs and design the products accordingly. This depicts that how much potential the product has to fulfil the needs of the target market segment. The price which the company has adopted is the market penetration pricing to attain the maximum market share. The company sustaining into the industry with competitors should also adopt competitive pricing strategy in order to beat the intense competition. The place mix deals with where and with how much ease the customers can get the products they want. Therefore; the stores, distrib ution centres should be located at the places which are convenient from the consumer perspective. The supply and distribution network should be very good to reach out to customers as and when required. The promotion mix is related as to how the customers will come to know about the new offer, products and services of the company. So, the company should go for both the innovative and traditional mediums of marketing their company. They should also keep in mind that their target market should be easily tapped by their marketing efforts and strategies. They can go for marketing activities inside and outside their stores because this will fulfil both the objectives of retaining the existing customers and attracting new ones. The people mix aspect is related to the people who are working for you and also for whom the company is working i.e. the employees, suppliers and the customers. The company has to make efforts to keep all of them happy and contended. The process mix aspect is for the procedure and policies that are followed by the company in order to give the best to its customers. The processes should be such that it moves in a flowing manner from manufacturing to reaching to the end user without any hurdle in between. In addition, if any hurdle occurs also then their back up plans should be very effective. The physical distribution is related to the tangible things which the company offers. Hence, company dealing in products they should take care of the packaging and quality of the products which will bring back their customers to them in turn of the experience which the company will provide. Therefore; the marketing mix will help to analyse the companys performance and accomplishment of its market ing objectives. Conclusion From the above report it can be concluded that the company is following various marketing strategies and tactics but in order to survive in the industry they have to constantly strive for implementing new and creative ideas in their business and marketing plans which will result into the value addition of the companys brand value. Companys different promotional techniques have given them a competitive edge in comparison to its competitors. The quality products at cheap prices have made them a brand name in Australia. All the recommendations given to the company will ensure the future growth and success of the company. Target market of the businesses will give the company and edge to become the leader of their industry as they will be recognised by the not only their customers but also the business customers as well.
